Welcome

The artist's role is to see the extraordinary in the ordinary and try to convey that to the viewer.
The subjects of my paintings are ordinary - a birch tree, a kitchen chair, small boats, stainless steel cookie tins, and fragile pieces of glass. Often these things are broken, mere fragments, shards of what they once were. In them, I see a reservoir of beauty that remains intact, despite the passage of time..
Jars of jam and various preserves have been favorite subjects. The beauty of red currant jelly, the way the sweetness of a summer harvest can be saved and enjoyed in the midst of a harsh winter day, make the subject very appealing. The subject also fits in with a love of painting the sheen of metal and glass.
The idea that we try to preserve things that are important to us has led me to images of more personal preserves. We use mason jars to store many treasures - shells, marbles, coins . Since we use them to save these valuables, I don't see why we couldn’t use them to preserve many other things as well.
